About Kati

Hi- I’m Kati, thanks for checking out my blog

I’m 24 and recently got a full-time job at a small marketing agency here in Charlotte, NC. I’m passionate about all things marketing- especially social media, web positioning and, event planning. Strategic digital marketing that gets results fascinates and drives me. So that’s a little about where I am now- how about a little background on how I got here?

I grew up in a small town right outside Charlotte and started working at a local Chick-fil-A when I was 14. After high school I moved to Wilmington to attend UNCWilmington in the fall of 2006. Studying abroad was always on my To-do list so in 2009 I jumped at the chance to spend a semester in Swansea, Wales in the UK. Made some amazing friends and fantastic memories in Swansea and even learned a bit in school and an internship at Swansea University. I returned to the US and landed an event planning internship with a small company as part of my Communication Studies courses. On top of my internship I focused my studies on PR, event planning, IMC (integrated marketing communications) and, digital media. I finished up my Bachelors of Art in Communication Studies in May 2010 and sadly left the Wilmington beaches behind for the better job market in Charlotte.

Through my connections at the Chick-fil-A I worked at in high school I got a job as Marketing Director for two local Chick-fil-As (with the same owner). As Marketing Director I did everything from building relationships and arranging fundraisers with local schools to driving a Chick-fil-A Cow around to radio stations to promote the launch of the (then) new spicy chicken biscuit. I worked about 70% from home and had a very unconventional schedule, sometimes having to be at the store at 6am to prep a catering delivery. I loved my job at Chick-fil-A and am still completely addicted to their chicken nuggets and diet lemonade. While I was at CFA I took a vacation to visit friends in the UK, including a stop in Edinburgh. After just four days in Edinburgh I was convinced I had to live there. I applied for University of Edinburgh’s Masters of Science in Marketing program but didn’t think I’d get in because it’s quite the prestigious school! A few months later I was pleasantly surprised to find out I’d been accepted into the program! I helped find, hire, and train my replacement at Chick-fil-A and said goodbye to the exciting Cow and chicken filled life I’d grown accustomed to.

I moved to Edinburgh with no idea where I’d end up after graduating, I sold my Charlotte car before I left and was considering a permanent move to somewhere in Europe after graduation. Shortly after arriving in Edinburgh this changed, I got back together with my high-school sweetheart who was (and still is) in school for Civil Engineering at UNCCharlotte. Apparently I’d left my heart in the States and decided to move back after finishing up my Masters. I was thrown into a program with 45 students from 21 different countries and only one other American. I learned a ton, made fantastic friends, and wrote my 16,000+ word dissertation on Pinterest. I left the land of the kilts and moved back to Charlotte in August 2012. And that’s when I started my blog…

Hmmm… what else is there?

– International family: My mom’s South African- one of her sister’s and father live there. My sister and her family live in Indonesia.

– I love marshmallows, cupcakes, cooking, and Diet Coke with Lime.

– In my free time I binge watch Netflix and read way too many articles/blog posts about social media and all things marketing.

– My favorite social network is Twitter with Pinterest in a close second but I jump at the chance to try new platforms as they arrive on the scene.

So there’s a little (OK maybe a lot) about me. Tell me about you!
